How loading crews work in Phoenix
You rent a U-Haul, Penske, or Budget truck. We send a two- or three-person crew to your origin — Arcadia ranch house, Roosevelt Row loft, Ahwatukee two-story, Tempe apartment complex, wherever. They load under your direction. Most Phoenix jobs run two to three hours; the single-story suburban stock that dominates the Valley often wraps in two.
We don’t drive the truck, we don’t sell boxes, we don’t broker storage. Labor — done by people who know how to load in 100°F mornings without breaking your kitchen — is the whole job.
When to use a crew vs. moving yourself
Phoenix-specific patterns where a crew pays for itself fast:
- Summer mornings. May through September means a 5am or 6am start to get the load on the truck before the heat is genuinely dangerous. Two amateurs at 11am in July is the most predictable injury pattern in this market. Three-mover crews start at dawn and are usually done before the heat index hits triple digits.
- Two-story homes. Anything in Surprise, Goodyear, Gilbert, Chandler, newer build communities tends toward two stories with a staircase built for furniture-coffin storage, not actual furniture-moving. King mattresses and large sectionals need three people.
- HOA / gated community access. Lots of Phoenix communities have guard-gate access with hours restrictions for trucks. Crews that have worked those communities know to call the gate ahead, get the truck cleared in one trip, and not lose a 30-minute window to the gatehouse.
- Long unload at destination. A Tucson or Flagstaff destination means crew arrives later in the day, more heat, dust everywhere. We can match a crew that does the load and a partner crew on the destination end.
If it’s October and you’re moving a studio in Tempe with friends and a pickup, DIY is fine.
What it costs
Loading Crews quotes every job individually. We don’t publish flat rates — the right number for your move depends on crew size, hours, stairs, specialty items, and the day of week.
After you submit the booking form, our dispatch team texts or calls within five minutes with your specific quote. Flat-rate quotes, no upcharges on arrival, no charge from us if no crew claims your job. The quote you get is the price you pay.

Frequently asked questions
Heat is the real question. What’s the move?
Book the earliest possible start window from May through September — 6am or 7am ideally. The crew brings water but expect a slower pace at peak heat. Heat-sensitive items (candles, electronics, wood furniture, art) load last so they’re in the truck for the shortest possible duration before the AC at destination.
Monsoon season — what changes?
July–September brings sudden afternoon storms. The crew watches the forecast and may suggest moving your start window earlier if a storm is tracking through. Dust storms (haboobs) close I-10 visibility intermittently; we’ll hold the crew rather than send them into one.
Do I need to be present?
At least to direct the crew on load order and walk through any access constraints (gate codes, stair patterns, fragile pieces). Plan on 15 minutes of pre-load conversation.
What about the suburbs — Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale?
All covered. Most of the East Valley books from the same crews that work central Phoenix. Far west (Buckeye, Goodyear past Cotton Lane) and the deep north Valley (Anthem, Cave Creek) sometimes route to a crews from our national dispatch. Either way the booking experience is identical.
Can the crew shrink-wrap furniture for me?
Yes. The crew brings furniture pads, hand trucks, and shrink wrap. You provide boxes, tape, and any specialty equipment (piano dolly, appliance dolly) — most Phoenix U-Haul locations rent those on the spot.
Same-day booking — possible?
On weekdays usually yes; on Saturdays in May/June/August it’s tight — those are the peak Valley move-in months. Book at least 24 hours ahead when you can.
