How loading crews work in Brooklyn
Brooklyn is the densest loading market we work. Three things shape every booking here: walk-up access (third- and fourth-floor brownstones with narrow stairs), parking (alternate-side rules, double-parking windows, loading-permit blocks in Park Slope and Brooklyn Heights), and building COIs (high-rises in Downtown Brooklyn and Williamsburg require a Certificate of Insurance filed 24-48 hours before move-in).
You rent the U-Haul, Penske, or Budget truck yourself; we send a two- or three-person crew to load it. Most Brooklyn one-bedrooms load in two to three hours; brownstone two-bedrooms with stairs run three to four. Crews bring pads, hand trucks, shoulder straps, and shrink wrap — bring your own boxes and any specialty dollies for pianos or appliances.
When to use a crew vs DIY in Brooklyn
- You rent a U-Haul or Penske and the load is in a walk-up. Two movers and a hand truck save an hour and a back injury per flight. By a third-floor walk-up the labor cost has paid for itself.
- You’re moving on the 1st or the 31st. Brooklyn lease-turnover windows are tight. Three movers finish before the noon parking rules kick in.
- You have a building COI requirement. Crews dispatched through us provide a COI within 24 hours of the dispatch call. Booking a weekend without lining up COI is the #1 reason a Brooklyn move gets bounced at the door.
Where crews load Brooklyn rentals
Brooklyn’s U-Haul, Penske, and Budget storefronts cluster around Bushwick, Williamsburg, Sunset Park, and Canarsie. Most renters pick up at one of those and crew at the apartment. We’ve handled loads across:
- Bushwick walk-ups and converted-warehouse lofts
- Williamsburg high-rises (COI buildings)
- Park Slope and Cobble Hill brownstones
- Bay Ridge two-families
- Sheepshead Bay garden apartments
- Greenpoint walk-ups and East Williamsburg lofts
- East Flatbush, Crown Heights, and Bedford-Stuyvesant townhouses
- Bensonhurst and Gravesend two-stories
- Coney Island and Brighton Beach co-ops
If your origin or destination is one of those neighborhoods, we have a crew within 20 minutes most weekdays. Weekends in May and September fill four to five days out — book ahead.
What to expect on pickup day
The crew lead texts when they’re leaving the prior job. They show up at your origin within the booked window, walk through the load order (heaviest and weight-sensitive first, fragile and light on top), and load tight against the rear wall of the truck. Standard call: two-bedroom Brooklyn apartment in three hours with three movers.
For unloading at the destination, book a separate crew at the destination city. We route those jobs the same way — through dispatch to the closest available crew at the other end.
