Frequently asked questions

Booking & dispatch

How do I get a quote?
Fill in the form on any city page or at /quote. Dispatch texts or emails within five minutes with your specific quote based on crew size, hours, stairs, specialty items, and date.
How far in advance should I get a quote?
Twenty-four hours is comfortable on weekdays. Saturdays in May and August, and end-of-month windows, fill three to five days out. Same-day quotes are sometimes possible if a job cancels — submit the form and dispatch will tell you if a crew is available.
What happens after I submit the form?
Your booking drops into Slack for dispatch. They pull from our national workforce to match your job to the closest available crew. The crew lead calls or texts within five minutes to confirm timing, rate, and any clarifying questions (stairs, COI, specialty items).
Can I book same-day?
Often yes — submit the form and dispatch will check the day's crew availability. May and end-of-month Saturdays are tightest.

On move day

Do the crews bring their own equipment?
Yes — every crew brings furniture pads, hand trucks, shoulder straps, and basic shrink wrap. You provide the rental truck, the boxes, and any specialty dollies (piano dolly, appliance dolly). Most U-Haul, Penske, and Budget locations rent specialty dollies by the day.
What if the crew is late?
The crew lead calls or texts you with any timing changes. If a crew is more than 90 minutes past their window without communicating, we'll send a different crew or refund the booking and route a replacement.
Can the crew drive the rental truck for me?
No. U-Haul, Penske, and Budget rental contracts name a specific driver — that's who has to be behind the wheel. The crew loads and unloads; you do the drive. Pros call this 'labor-only.'
What if my job needs more time than quoted?
The crew lead calls you with a revised estimate before continuing. We'd rather re-quote in real time than surprise you on the invoice. Common reasons: undisclosed stairs, a packed-up walk-up that wasn't on the form, a specialty item that needs extra handling.

Pricing & payment

How much does a loading crew cost?
Every job is quoted individually. Rates vary widely by metro, so we don't publish a national rate card. After form submit, dispatch sends a specific number for your job. See /pricing for the full breakdown of what drives the quote.
Do you charge me anything up front?
Your quote is what you pay. No surprise upcharges, no surge pricing. We never charge a deposit or booking fee — billing happens after the job.
Do weekend bookings cost more?
Your quote is flat-rate — the number you see is the number you pay. Loading Crews doesn't bake weekend, end-of-month, or last-minute surcharges into the rate.
What payment methods do crews take?
Card, Venmo, Zelle, or cash. The crew confirms accepted methods on the dispatch call before pickup day.
Am I expected to tip the crew?
Tips are appreciated but never expected. Crews are paid their full hourly rate. If you do tip after a clean job, $20–40 per mover is the local norm in most metros.

Damage, insurance & trust

What if a crew damages my belongings?
The crew lead who took your booking is the named point of contact for damage claims. Smaller items are often resolved directly with the crew; larger items get escalated through dispatch. We track every damage complaint and pull crews with repeated complaints from rotation while we investigate.
How are crews vetted?
Crew leads onboard through a vetting process before they take their first booking. New leads work alongside seasoned ones before running their own jobs. Crews are dispatched under the lead who took the booking — same name on the dispatch call, on pickup day, and for any follow-up.
Do I need rental-truck insurance?
Yes — rental-truck insurance covers the truck itself in an accident. U-Haul SafeMove, Penske Limited Damage Waiver, and Budget Damage Waiver are the standard add-ons. Loading Crews is labor-only; we don't carry an umbrella policy on the load itself, so check whether your homeowner's or renter's coverage has a 'while in transit' rider if that matters to your move. See /guides/moving-insurance-explained for the full breakdown.

About Loading Crews

Are you affiliated with U-Haul, Penske, or Budget?
No. Loading Crews is an independent labor service. We send the crew that loads or unloads your rental truck. You book the truck yourself, directly through U-Haul, Penske, or Budget.
Do you have a service area?
All 50 states + DC. Our network of roughly 28,000 vetted movers covers hundreds of U.S. cities. See /locations for the per-state directory or /sitemap for every city page.
How do I contact Loading Crews?
Use the /contact page for support inquiries. For booking, the form on any city page or at /quote is fastest — dispatch responds within five minutes.

Still got a question?
