How loading crews work in San Diego
You rent a U-Haul, Penske, or Budget truck. We send a two- or three-person crew to your origin — North Park craftsman, Pacific Beach apartment, Hillcrest condo, Chula Vista house, La Jolla coastal place, wherever in the county. They load under your direction. Most San Diego jobs run two to three hours.
We don’t drive the truck, we don’t broker storage. Labor — and the packing experience that keeps your stuff intact on I-5 — is the whole product.
When to use a crew vs. moving yourself
San Diego patterns where a crew earns its keep:
- Walk-ups near the beaches. Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach. Narrow streets, scarce truck parking, and second- or third- floor units on top of garage spaces. Per-hour math turns against DIY fast when every load takes a long walk.
- Military / PCS moves around Coronado, Miramar, Camp Pendleton. Tight timelines, often a full family load. Crews that have run base moves know the gate access, get vehicles cleared in one stop, and understand TMO paperwork timing.
- Hillside houses. Mount Helix, Mt Soledad, parts of La Jolla, Bonita. Steep driveways and exterior stairs. Three movers handle these; two will burn out by hour three.
- Tight apartment-complex windows. Downtown high-rises near the Gaslamp and Petco Park typically require freight-elevator reservation plus COI. A crew that’s worked those buildings before doesn’t lose a window to security or paperwork.
If it’s a North Park studio moving to another North Park studio with a friend’s truck and you’re under the gross weight, DIY is fine.
What it costs
Loading Crews quotes every job individually. We don’t publish flat rates — the right number for your move depends on crew size, hours, stairs, specialty items, and the day of week.
After you submit the booking form, our dispatch team texts or calls within five minutes with your specific quote. Flat-rate quotes, no upcharges on arrival, no charge from us if no crew claims your job. The quote you get is the price you pay.

Frequently asked questions
PCS / military move — anything different?
Tell us at booking. Crews that work base moves regularly know to coordinate with TMO timelines, get the gate access squared away, and keep paperwork legible for reimbursement. We can usually match a crew that’s run moves at Naval Base Coronado, Miramar, or Pendleton in the last 90 days.
COI for downtown high-rises — how does that work?
If your building requires a Certificate of Insurance, mention it at booking and the crew lead will work with you to file ahead of move day.
Service area beyond the city of San Diego?
Most of the county: city of San Diego, Chula Vista, National City, El Cajon, La Mesa, Santee, Spring Valley, Coronado, Imperial Beach, Poway, Escondido, San Marcos, Vista, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar. Far north (Fallbrook, Camp Pendleton interior) are covered by our national dispatch — same booking flow.
Beach-week move — what’s the move?
End of July and most of August are tourist-heavy near the coast. Truck rentals get tight and parking enforcement gets aggressive. Book the crew at least four days ahead and apply for a temporary moving-truck permit if your origin is on a residential beach street.
Can a crew unload across the county after I drive the truck?
Yes — we can match a destination crew to your route. Tell us both addresses at booking and we’ll book a destination crew when our local San Diego crew is finished loading.
Same-day booking?
Weekdays usually yes. Saturdays in the warmer months tighten up two to three days out — book ahead when you can.
