How loading crews work in Indianapolis
You rent a U-Haul, Penske, or Budget truck. We send a two- or three-person crew to your origin — Broad Ripple bungalow, Fountain Square apartment, Carmel two-story, Speedway ranch, Greenwood subdivision, wherever in greater Indy. They load under your direction. Most Indianapolis jobs run two to three hours; the predominantly single-story housing stock loads on the faster end.
We don’t drive the truck and we don’t broker storage. Labor — done by people who load trucks daily and know the I-465 timing — is the whole product.
When to use a crew vs. moving yourself
Indianapolis patterns where a crew earns its keep:
- Two-story houses in Carmel, Fishers, Westfield, Zionsville. Family-sized furniture plus the staircase typical of north-side suburbs needs three movers. The mortgage math favored a big house; the moving math favors three pros.
- August move-in around IUPUI and Butler. University-driven demand spikes; trucks book out a week or more ahead. Get the crew on the calendar early for late August / early September windows.
- Winter moves. December through February brings ice, salt, and snow on shoes. The crew brings floor runners; DIY usually doesn’t, and security-deposit math goes poorly. Same-day pack-and-load in February is also rough on hands.
- Indy 500 weekend. The race plus the surrounding events block off west-side streets and pull demand. Plan around the third week of May.
If you’re a one-bedroom downsizing inside the I-465 loop with a friend’s pickup, DIY is fine.
What it costs
Loading Crews quotes every job individually. We don’t publish flat rates — the right number for your move depends on crew size, hours, stairs, specialty items, and the day of week.
After you submit the booking form, our dispatch team texts or calls within five minutes with your specific quote. Flat-rate quotes, no upcharges on arrival, no charge from us if no crew claims your job. The quote you get is the price you pay.

Frequently asked questions
Service area beyond Marion County?
Most of greater Indy: Indianapolis, Carmel, Fishers, Westfield, Zionsville, Brownsburg, Avon, Plainfield, Greenwood, Franklin, Beech Grove, Speedway, Lawrence, Mooresville, Noblesville. Further out (Bloomington, Lafayette, Anderson) are covered by our national dispatch — same booking flow.
Winter moves — anything different?
The crew brings floor runners and asks you to clear an interior path before arrival. Weather-sensitive items (electronics, art, wood furniture) load last so they spend the least time in cold transit. If sub-freezing on pickup day, allow extra time.
IUPUI / Butler move-in week?
Late August / early September is the busiest window. Calendars start filling in mid-July. Tuesday–Thursday windows are dramatically less constrained than the move-in weekend itself.
Same-day booking?
Weekdays usually yes. Weekends in May (race), August, and around holidays fill two to three days out — book ahead when you can.
Can the crew handle a gun safe or piano?
Yes if you tell us at booking. Specialty items need three movers minimum.
Indy 500 weekend?
We can work around it — Saturday and Sunday of race weekend means heavy west-side traffic, but our crews work the east, south, and north sides normally. Tell us at booking if your route crosses west of I-465 on those days.
