How loading crews work in Detroit
You rent a U-Haul, Penske, or Budget truck. We send a two- or three-person crew to your origin — Corktown bungalow, Midtown loft, Indian Village mansion, Hamtramck rental, Royal Oak craftsman, Grosse Pointe, Dearborn two-story, wherever in metro Detroit. They load under your direction. Most Detroit jobs run two to three hours.
We don’t drive the truck and we don’t broker storage. Labor — done by people who load in Michigan winters without breaking a hardwood floor — is the whole product.
When to use a crew vs. moving yourself
Detroit patterns where a crew earns its keep:
- Winter moves. November–March brings ice, salt, and snow. Floor protection is essential. The crew brings runners; DIY usually doesn’t, and the security-deposit math goes poorly.
- Two-story houses in Royal Oak, Birmingham, Troy, Northville, Bloomfield Hills. Suburban stock plus family-sized furniture means three movers, not two.
- Detroit historic homes. Indian Village, Boston-Edison, Palmer Woods — large turn-of-century houses with narrow back stairs, big doorframes that don’t quite take modern furniture. The crew knows the dimensions.
- Apartment buildings in Midtown / Downtown with elevators. Most newer buildings (Boji, Compuware-adjacent loft conversions) require COI and elevator reservation.
If you’re a one-bedroom in Midtown moving to another Midtown one-bedroom with a friend’s truck, DIY is fine.
What it costs
Loading Crews quotes every job individually. We don’t publish flat rates — the right number for your move depends on crew size, hours, stairs, specialty items, and the day of week.
After you submit the booking form, our dispatch team texts or calls within five minutes with your specific quote. Flat-rate quotes, no upcharges on arrival, no charge from us if no crew claims your job. The quote you get is the price you pay.

Frequently asked questions
Service area beyond Wayne County?
Most of the Tri-County: Detroit, Dearborn, Hamtramck, Highland Park, Royal Oak, Ferndale, Birmingham, Troy, Pontiac, Bloomfield Hills, Auburn Hills, Rochester Hills, Sterling Heights, Warren, Grosse Pointe, Grosse Pointe Woods, St. Clair Shores, Allen Park, Lincoln Park, Wyandotte. Further out (Ann Arbor, Pontiac fringes, Macomb’s far east) are covered by our national dispatch.
Winter moves — what’s the move?
The crew brings floor runners and asks you to shovel/salt the path ahead of arrival. Weather-sensitive items (electronics, art, wood) load last to minimize cold-truck time. Below 20°F outside, we work shorter spurts with breaks; total window is 30–60 minutes longer than fair-weather equivalents.
Detroit historic home — anything different?
Tell us at booking, especially if doorframes are narrow or if you have large pieces that may need to come out a window. The crew can advise on the right truck size and load order on the walkthrough.
COI for Midtown loft buildings?
If your building requires a Certificate of Insurance, mention it at booking and the crew lead will work with you to file ahead of move day.
Auto Show / event weekends?
January Auto Show plus a few summer Detroit Grand Prix dates pull demand and clog downtown. Tell us at booking; the crew will plan a route that avoids event zones.
Same-day booking?
Weekdays usually yes. End-of-month and summer Saturdays fill two to three days out — book ahead.
